Kirk Peterson's Carmen
American Repertory Ballet Carmen at its debut appearance at the highly regarded Gerald W. Lynch Theater, located on the campus of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York City. The program opens with Kirk Peterson’s The Eyes that Gently Touch, set to the driving rhythms of Philip Glass’ Mad Rush, culminating in a dance replete with romance and thrilling movement. Next is Mary Barton’s Straight Up with a Twist, a work set to the eclectic sounds of Kaila Flexer and Third Ear which showcases the versatility of ARB’s dancers and Barton’s choreographic genius. The performance concludes with another company premiere: Peterson’s Carmen. Based on Georges Bizet’s opera, Peterson tells the tale of Carmen, a passionate, free-spirited woman, the fickle Don José and her love triangle between Don José and popular bullfighter Escamillo.

In 1929, the streets of Sydney, Australia ran with blood as a pair of notorious crime bosses led their rival empires to war. The twist? These two crime bosses were women. Kate Leigh and Tilly Devine spent years battling for control of the booze, drug, and prostitution trades. This new musical traces their historical reign as queens of their domains, and asks if they were truly evil ladies - or just shrewd business women ahead of their time.

The Man in Room 306
A revival of Luna's critically acclaimed signature piece honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination.
PRODUCED IN ASSOCIATION WITH BONNIE & MICHAEL CARTER, AND RITA & TERRY WOODARD
It is April 3rd, 1968: a rainy evening at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee and the last night in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. These are the declining years of the Civil Rights Movement and the stakes couldn't be higher: the viability of nonviolence in the civil rights struggle and Dr. King's credibility as its symbolic leader are in jeopardy. Under these trying circumstances, Dr. King finds himself alone in Room 306, struggling with his past, anxious about his future, and coming to terms with his life. The Man in Room 306 is a critically acclaimed, intimate, and human portrait of Dr. King: a fictional glimpse into the private passions and fears of an incredible man during an extraordinary time.
